Supporting Scouting

Values of Scouting

A recent study by Harris Interactive indicates that boys with at least five years of Scouting are more likely than those who have never been Scouts to:

Ø      Assume leadership roles in clubs and school organizations

Ø      Have higher self-confidence

Ø      Resist negative peer pressure

Ø      Consider the needs of others first

Lifelong Benefits

This same Harris study showed that Scouts were more likely to:

Ø      Graduate from college

Ø      Earn higher annual household incomes

Ø      Highly value family relationships

Ø      Enjoy strong, lasting friendships

To keep this program moving forward and bringing its values-based programs to more youth requires the participation of youth and volunteers, as well as the financial support of the community.

The Top Ten Reasons
Families Should Support the Friends of Scouting Program

  1. Our council service center is one of the best reasons. We maintain three staffed, and stocked service centers for the convenience of our volunteers and units.  The Gold Dust Scout Shop offers an inventory of uniforms, badges, awards, literature, and other items necessary for your unit to give a quality program to boys.
  2. A dedicated office staff maintains membership, advancement and other necessary records on all of our units, insuring that your Scout gets credit for all his advancement
  3. Chances are your son joined Scouting because a professional staff member sent out recruiting flyers. Your son’s unit receives continual guidance and assistance from this professional Scouter
  4. The council organizes nine local day camps, five Cub Scout resident camp sessions, six weeks of Boy Scout Camp, and National Youth Leadership Training for your son to attend
  5. The council, through its staff and volunteers, provides training for you and other adult leaders to offer a quality program to your sons
  6. The council operates, maintains, and improves its three camps, Camp Warren McConnell, Camp John Mensinger and Camp Isom (primitive) so that your unit and families can enjoy an outdoor program in a safe environment
  7. Background checks are conducted on all new leaders to be sure that Scouting remains a safe environment for your son
  8. We maintain liability insurance on all charter partners and adult leaders
  9. Each of our eight local districts (Big Valley, Chief Tenaya, El Capitan, Forty-Niner, Golden Heritage, Waukeen, Wawona and Scoutreach) are served by local executive staff through local offices
  10. We develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, including the Modesto Nuts and Stockton Ports, to secure special promotions for Scouts and Scouting units

So when your family is asked to make a contribution to the Family Friends of Scouting program, we hope you’ll remember these important services that your council provides to your unit and we can count on your support!
