Friends of Scouting Fundraising Campaign Continues

Each year, Greater Yosemite Council conducts a “Friends of Scouting” fundraising campaign. This is our opportunity to reach out into the community we serve and seek support so that we may continue to provide our values based programs that help our young men and women grow into productive citizens and leaders. The annual “Friends of Scouting” drive raises approximately 38% of the operating budget each year, allowing the council to provide adult and youth training, camping experiences, volunteer support etc.

El Capitan District is on target to visit every Scouting unit. This year’s FOS presentation team includes Clint Armes, Tim Bughi, Sandra Blair, Mike Dixon, Megan Mallory, Jim Quinley, Donald Sonnefeld, Donovan Wallace and Marty Watson. Now is the time for every unit’s FOS Chairperson to complete a follow-up with the families who have not had an opportunity to contribute to this important fundraiser. Deliver completed pledge cards to the Council Service Center or contact your District Executive. Additional materials and “Scout Law” shoulder strips are available at the Council Service Center.

Unit Commissioners Help Units Succeed

Unit Commissioners are experienced district volunteers who coach and consult with the adult leaders of every Scouting unit. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members. This will become especially import this year as we convert our recharter process to the new Internet Recharter process being provided by the B.S.A. The Unit Commissioner plays several roles, including friend, representative, unit "doctor," teacher, and counselor. Every pack, troop, team and crew should by contacted monthly by its Commissioner. Has your unit taken advantage of the expertise and experience offered by a Unit Commissioner recently? For more information, contact your District Commissioner, Marty Watson.
